Misreadings

2020-2025

Photography constructs—not captures—truth.

These photos play with meaning—sometimes through visual puns, other times through layering, reflection, or embedded language. They’re not all ironic in the traditional sense, but they each twist expectations in some way. I’m interested in how a photo can say one thing at first glance and something totally different when you look again. By messing with language, repetition, and the way images are usually read, I try to pull the viewer into that in-between space where things feel just a little off.

This work, and my work in general, takes inspiration from photographers such as Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Robert Cumming, and Sung Neung Kyung.
